SJSU women’s swim and dive ( 3-4, 0-0 MW) traveled to the Lone Star state to compete In the Mountain West Championships. Despite a solid start, the momentum could not be carried into the later part of the competition.

Although SJSU secured some solid finishes Feb. 15 through Feb. 18, it finished eighth place with 632.5 total for the competition on the final day.

On day one of the event, the Spartans looked to get ahead early securing a fifth-place finish in the 800m free relay. The finish marked a new record for the fastest time in the event with a 17:19.8.

After one day of action, SJSU stood in sixth place with a total of 112 points.

Day two began and so did the struggles for the Spartans. Out of five events, the they failed to reach the champion finals and finished the final two in last place.

SJSU now sat in eighth place with a total of 251 points.

Despite a rough two days, The Spartans managed to regain their footing bit on the final day of the competition. Freshman diver Jenna Jagielski led the way scoring 261.75 in the Women’s platform finals to set a new school record.

The struggles seemed to have followed the Spartans into the third day of competition as they could not find a way to secure a top-five finish in any event. The highlight of the day was a seventh-place finish in the women’s 200m free relay.

After three days of action, SJSU remained in eighth place with 431 points

Sophomore swimmer Zsófia Muzsnay added a fourth-place finish in the women’s 200m butterfly final with a time of 1:58.96.

The Spartans will look to bounce back in less than a week as they are set to travel to Federal Way, Washington for the PAC 12 invitational on Feb. 26.
