Solid performances helps SJSU women’s swimming and diving beat Pepperdine

At its home waters in the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center SJSU women’s swimming and diving took on the Pepperdine Waves on Friday, Oct. 21.

Previously SJSU women’s swimming and diving participated in the Roadrunner Invitational in Bakersfield, Calif. on Oct. 15.

The meet kicked off with the 200-yard medley relay and three-meter diving.

The Spartans’ B relay team finished with a time of 1:47.32, while freshman Mya Azzopardi lead the pack with a time of 27.53.

Azzopardi continued her heroics in the event by taking first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 26.30.

SJSU women’s swimming and diving’s finished first in all but one event which was the 1000-yard freestyle.

A special performance took place in the 200-yard backstroke event as senior Felicity Passon broke the previous SJSU record with a time of 2:00.17.

SJSU diving consistently found a way to maximize its score.

The domination started in the one-meter diving event as freshman Jenna Jagielski finished first with a final score of 274.20. Senior Emily San Jose followed up that performance in second place with a score of 266.48.

Jagielski found herself on top in the three-meter diving event with a final score of 283.35. San Jose was also not too far behind this time finishing in third with a score of 250.05.

Overall, it was another great showing for a team coming off an outing where they had multiple first place finishes.

SJSU women’s swimming and diving will compete against University of the Pacific at the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center on Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
