San Jose State women’s swimming and diving team attended the Roadrunner Invitational in Bakersfield, Calif. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The Spartans finished second of six teams in swimming. They also finished first in diving. SJSU looked like a cohesive unit in the relays and left with some individual first-place finishes as well.
SJSU women’s swim finished behind Santa Barbara who had a total of 344.50 points.
Junior Reagan Mathieson finished first in the women’s 200-yard freestyle for SJSU with a final time of 1:51:69 . Senior Felicity Passon came in second for the Spartans with a 1:51:99.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Passon finished first with a time of 51.72 seconds. She also finished third in women’s 100-yard individual melody with a time of 58.61.
Junior Alice Ciobanu placed ninth in the women’s 1000-yard freestyle for SJSU. Freshman Hailey Todd finished in eleventh place.
Junior Emma Myburgh finished in third place in the 200-yard break stroke with a time of 2:20:60. In the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Zósfia Muzsnay placed in third place and sophomore Andree Dragoi placed fourth for the Spartans.
In diving, SJSU came in first place ahead of Cal Poly and CSU Bakersfield with 103 points on 36 dives.
Freshman Jenna Jagielski finished in first place with a score of 322.30 in the dive. Sophomore Emily San Jose came in second with a 291.00 and freshman Makenna Sharpe came in fourth with a 268.40.
The Spartans dominated in diving and they had good showings across the board. They are coming back to the Bay Area with some first-place wins tucked under their belt and it was their best showing of the season.
SJSU women’s swimming and diving will compete against Pepperdine at the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center (SRAC) at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22.
