Spartans beat Aztecs behind McAdoo’s multi-homer game

San Jose State baseball captured a victory against rivals San Diego State on Friday night. The Spartans blanked the Aztecs 4-0, thanks to Charles McAdoo’s scorching hot bat and stellar pitching by Jonathan Clark and Darren Jansen.

William Shakespeare needs to rename one of his novels in honor of McAdoo. “Much ado about McAdoo” perfectly encapsulates Friday’s game. The super utility star did it all, collecting three hits, two of them being home runs, and snagging a base.

McAdoo got things started for the Spartans in the first inning when he singled to center field, scoring James Shimashita. Part of SDSU’s game plan had to be to slow down McAdoo’s bat. However, like many great players, you can’t stop them. You can only hope to contain them.

McAdoo was certainly not contained in this clash between the conference rivals. He collected his second hit of the night by way of the long ball in the third inning, putting the Spartans up 2-0.

McAdoo’s success at the plate was mirrored by Clark and Jansen’s success on the mound.

The duo held the Aztecs to nine base runners all night, en route to SJSU’s first shutout of the year.

The Spartans tacked on another run in the sixth when Nathan Cadena grounded into a double play. Not pretty, but a run is a run and you usually don’t mind trading outs for runs.

McAdoo capped off his spectacular night by hitting his second homer in the seventh inning. He certainly showcased why he belongs in the three hole in coach Sanfilippo’s lineup.

With McAdoo reaching base safely once again, he’s extended his on-base streak to 31 games and has a hit in 28 of those games.

The Spartans will play game two of a three game series against the Aztecs on Saturday at 6 p.m.
