The San Jose State women’s softball team (17-16, 3-6 MW) traveled to Stockton, Calif. to face off against the University of Pacific Tigers (9-24, 0-0 MW) early Thursday evening.
The first two innings were a defensive struggle, with both teams keeping the other scoreless.
It wasn’t until the top of the third inning that a member of the Spartans had their monumental moment of the season.
Junior catcher Trenity Edwards stepped up to home plate for the first time and hit her first home run of the season.
SJSU took a 1-0 lead against Pacific early.
This celebratory moment did not last long as the Tigers rallied in the bottom of the third with three runs against the Spartans, 3-1.
The energy was high for SJSU during the fourth inning, wanting to bring the lead back in its possession.
During the fourth, Edwards came back up to back and hit a double. She then completed her run due to Pacific making an error before the third out, 3-2.
Unfortunately, this was the last run for either team, as neither SJSU or Pacific scored another run for the rest of the game.
In the end, the Spartans fell to the Tigers 3-2.
The Spartans will continue on the road to play the University of Nevada Wolf Pack in Reno, Nev. Friday at 3 p.m.
