San Jose State women’s beach volleyball team powered through the rain and wind this weekend with back-to-back wins against Oregon and Sacramento State Saturday at Spartan Beach.
On Saturday morning, they took down the Oregon Ducks, winning the duals 3-2 as Madeline Boerstra and Sarah Smevog stepped out onto the beach fighting hard to clinch points.
It was the Spartans’ sixth ever win against a PAC-12 program as they improved to 2-0 against Oregon all time.
The rainy weather didn’t stop them as they started out strong to play into their next match with Sacramento State sweeping the board with 5-0.
“Today we had a lot of patience with our touch, we set really well in the rain,” said senior Haylee Nelson. “We set really well in the wind and we grinded out a lot of wins that yesterday we were coming short of even though we didn’t win yesterday we picked up our game even further and I am excited to go into tomorrow against Arizona.”
The Spartans are enjoying their new home at Spartan Beach.
“It’s an awesome atmosphere and our team just loves being at home,” Nelson said.” We get to do the scoreboard and it has our names up there and we can cheer as loud as we can because this is where we practice every day so it’s really fun.”
SJSU looks to complete the weekend sweep Sunday against Arizona.
