Seven. San Jose State baseball are a perfect 7-0 in games decided by three runs or less. SJSU has exhibited a tremendous knack for winning close games. They will try to keep that record pristine when they face Nevada in a three-game series beginning Friday.
SJSU is fresh off a narrow win against Cal Poly Tuesday. It will look to extend their three-game winning streak against its conference foe. During that streak, the Spartans have found a winning formula thanks to excellent pitching and timely hitting.
In SJSU’s last three ball games, it has managed to win by exactly two runs each time. This has been a direct antithesis of the Spartan’s season at the start. In the beginning, they were scoring double digit runs frequently. Now, SJSU has become adept at being stingy when it comes to giving up runs.
Perhaps the Spartans will be imbued by the recent success from their pitching staff. Quality starting pitching and a lights out bullpen has been the story as of late.
Closer Brady Hill has been practically unhittable all season. The righty has been a maestro whenever his number is called by skipper Brad Sanfilippo. Hill has notched five saves to go with a terrific 1.42 ERA and .79 WHIP. He’s a major reason the Spartans are winning close games.
The Spartans will look to finish off their road trip on a high note before heading back home. They will battle the Wolf Pack today at 1 p.m.
