San Jose State women’s tennis traveled to San Francisco last weekend and lost to USF 4-2.

This was the Spartans’ fourth consecutive loss after starting the season out at a sturdy 3-1. Frustration was the theme of the day on a chilly and windy day at the Goldman Tennis Center.

Doubles action was the first thing on the menu between the Spartans and the Dons. Oleksandra Andrieieva and Lara Marco Mas represented SJSU in the first doubles match of the day.

Andrieieva and Marco Mas put up a good fight all the way to the bitter end but eventually lost 7-5. The Spartans’ doubles luck didn’t get any better after game one. SJSU ended up losing two doubles matches 7-5 and 6-2 and found themselves in a hole early.

It was apparent that urgency became paramount during the Spartans’ doubles matches. At one point during Irena Muradyan and Rozalina Youseva’s doubles match, Muradyan slammed her racket into the ground in frustration after losing a key set. This summed up the Spartans’ day in a nutshell.

Next up was singles action.

In the first singles competition, Alba Pedrero Galindo took her opponent to three sets. However, she ended up losing 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3. In singles match number two, Oleksandra Andrieieva dominated in two sets 6-1 and 6-3.

Rozalina Youseva was up next in her singles’ matchup. The junior from Bulgaria showcased enormous talent and fiery passion in her performance. She sprinted relentlessly side to side swatting tennis balls with her strong backhand. Youseva’s boisterous voice pierced the atmosphere, shouting in her native tongue whenever she scored a crucial point. In the end, Youseva won her match 7-5, 6-2 and 6-4.

Youseva continued her singles domination as she improved her record to 12-1 this season. She was one of the lone bright spots on the day for the Spartans.

SJSU would go on to lose the rest of their singles matches and were defeated 4-2 to USF. Frustration began early in the day for the Spartans and they never recovered.

San Jose State will look to snap their four-game losing streak against Saint Mary’s on March 16 at 1 p.m.
