The San Jose State women’s gymnastics team swept Air Force in their Colorado Springs meet on Friday. SJSU led in all categories, with Jada Mazury high in the standings in all four competitions.
SJSU had already wrapped up its home schedule, including a heartwarming senior night, and now look to finish the season strong as it marches toward the NCAA Championships.
Continuing their tremendous run of form, two Spartans grabbed all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors as Mazury was MPSF Gymnast of the Week and Emma Milne got MPSF Specialist of the Week.
Junior Cameron Kelperis said before the meet via Twitter, “we don’t want to change anything. We just want to keep building off each other and keep building off our positive energy.”
It turned out that they wouldn’t have to change anything because the same stars on their roster just kept on performing.
Jada Mazury got the Spartans off to a hot start when she hung a 9.900 on the bars to vault SJSU to an early lead in the meet. Following close behind Mazury was Jaudai Lopes and Merecedez Sanchez, both tying for second with Air Force’s Amber Boll with a score of 9.850.
Speaking of vaulting, Madison Kirsch led SJSU in the competition with a meet-high 9.825 from the pommel horse. Spartans took the top five spots in the category, with Ayla McKean leading Air Force with a score of just 9.725.
Moving on to the beam routine, MPSF Specialist of the Week Emma Milne did it again. She scored an unholy 9.925 on the balance beam, leading the entire meet by a wide margin. Tying Air Force’s Genevieve Sabado for second place was Mazury alongside Katherine Weyhmiller, each recording scores of 9.850.
SJSU kept the good times rolling into the floor event, with Mazury and Kelperis grabbing the top two spots with scores of 9.875 and 9.825, respectively. Lopes tied for third with three gymnasts from Air Force with a score of 9.800.
Sweeping the all-around category was Mazury, Lopes and Lauren Macpherson, with each outscoring? their Air Force opponents.
The Spartans led in all categories and won the meet by a margin of .925. They will travel to Seattle on March 11 for their final regular-season meet against the University of Washington.
