San Jose State  football  (4-4, 2-2 MW) defeated the University of Las Vegas Nevada (0-7, 0-3 MW) 27-20 .

The Spartans found themselves down immediately. They were down 7-0 in a blink of  an eye  after sophomore running back Shamar Garret fumbled on the opening kickoff return. UNLV freshman quarterback Cameron Friel and junior wide receiver Steve Jenkins put together strong rushes to secure the early touchdown.

SJSU junior quarterback Nick Nash tried to cut in the open to get another 14-yard gain. He was able to make a third and eight for the SJSU by Nash. Which ended up being the first down for SJSU

Wide Receiver Isaiah Hamilton fumbled the ball at the two yard line.

It’s a 7-3 UNLV lead at this point. Spartans have been clean on the penalties. The Spartans faked  a handoff to  Nash who tried to spin off to the side but UNLV players were already waiting on his side and was put to a stop by two defenders from UNLV.

The Rebel’s sophomore wide receiver  Kyle Williams passed over to the rebels at the 40- yard line With that pass over the first quarter ending with a 7-3.

Within minutes of the second quarter UNLV senior kicker Danny Gutierrez gets 53- yard per record. SJSU Nick Nash keeps trying to push through the rebels but is met with unstopping force. Having a 17-3 lead against SJSU off of another turnover.

The Spartans needed 5 yards but they got 9 yards all thanks to Freshman wide receiver Charles Ross. They’re at 17-6 now with no touchdowns to show for it. Mostly kicks and field goals

At the 34 yard line SJSU finally got the ball in the final seconds of the first half. There was a touchdown in the final seconds from Tyler Nevens. It went under a review until the referees called the touchdown so in the last seconds the score was 17-13. This is the first touchdown of the game from the Spartans all in the last seconds of the second quarter.

Within eight minutes into the 3rd quarter the rebels rushed within 57 yard. Making the score 20-13 with the Rebels winning.

Within the first couple of minutes in the fourth quarter Senior Running Back Tyler Nevens, Spartans scored a touchdown. With a 20-20 tied score. It seems as though the Spartans may be able to pass the Rebels in the last quarter.

The Spartans got on top 27-20 from a rushing touchdown from Nick Nash within the last 7 minutes of the fourth quarter.

“This is a big time win that we needed,” said Spartans head coach Brent Brennan

With the final score ending 27-20 the Spartans hope to keep the momentum going on Oct. 30th when they play against the Wyoming Cowboys on October 30th at CEFCU Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 pm and you can watch it live only on Fox Sports 2.
