Spartans hoping to win big in Los Angeles

San Jose State women’s basketball (3-5, 0-0 MW) will be heading into Los Angeles on Sunday to battle the UCLA Bruins (4-2, 0-0 Pac-12).

The Spartans come into this matchup with two straight losses on the road but picking up a win in Westwood would be a huge boost for SJSU.

Senior forward Cydni Lewis led all scorers with a career high 25 points at UC San Diego on Friday night. Lewis leads the conference in rebounds as she currently averages 8.3 rebounds per game. It will be a homecoming for Lewis who grew up in Long Beach. She played at powerhouse Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif.

The Spartans have been creating a lot of turnovers on defense by coming up with 15 steals over their last two games. Senior forward Meghan Oberg and junior guard Ella Ogier have been a dynamic duo for SJSU this season. Oberg has been a force in the paint and Ogier is averaging a team-high 12.8 points per game. Both Oberg and Ogier cause plenty of havoc on defense with their length.

Senior guard A’tyanna Gaulden is a firecracker coming off the bench. Gaulden is averaging 9.8 points off the bench this season. She always plays 100% on both ends of the floor and makes the most of every opportunity.

UCLA returns to Pauley Pavilion to host the Spartans on Sunday afternoon. UCLA last played SJSU back in 2017 when the Bruins dominated the Spartans 129-69. The Bruins are undefeated at home at 3-0. They’re led by junior guard Charisma Osborne as she is averaging a team-high 17.8 points per game. The Bruins play their best when their starting five plays efficient team basketball.

The Spartans and Bruins tip off in Pauley Pavilion at 2 p.m. on Sunday and the UCLA live stream is available on sjsuspartans.com.
