Spartans get wiped out by the Waves

San Jose State, (4-4) saw their three-game win streak got wiped out by Pepperdine University, (3-8) with the score 82-69 in Malibu, Calif on Monday night.

Head Coach Tim Miles started his fifth different starting lineup. The five were freshman guard Myron Amey and sophomore guard Omari Moore. Sophomore Trey Anderson and redshirt freshman Shon Robinson started as forwards with redshirt freshman  Josh O’Garro and freshman Alvaro Cardenas at shooting and point guards.

The Waves got off to a 24-15 lead to start off the first half. With Trey Smith switching with O’Garro and scoring two points at the first half the Spartans were down 32-19 with less than five minutes to go in the half 

With five rebounds and two assists from Moore, the Spartans were down by twenty at the end of 1st half. But Pepperdine kept the momentum

The overall play of the game was focused on the defense and pushing more Pepperdine’s court which started off the 2nd half. SJSU was down 55-42 with 14:42 in the second half. Cardenas and Trey Smith each had 14 points for the Spartans.

After the first half there were more shots being made from the sides of the court which would close down the game more in the middle of the court when the defense would come in.

Spartans made it more challenging for Pepperdine with 10 rebounds by Spartans sophomore center Ibrahima Diallo at the end of the second half. But the Spartans will now return home looking to get a bounce back win.

The Spartans will be playing the University of Pacific Tigers, (4-5) this Saturday. The Spartans will look to remain unbeaten at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. only on the Mountain West Network.
