Mountain West football round-up: Week 13

It is the final week of the regular season in college football. Let us take a look at the Mountain West Conference scores, news and notes from the final week.

No. 21 SDSU (11-1, 7-1) 27. Boise State (7-5, 5-3 MW) 16.

The Aztecs finished the regular season with the best record in the MW and clinched a spot in the Mountain West Championship game in Carson, Calif. with a win over the Broncos on Saturday. San Diego State  senior quarterback Jordon Brookshire completed 11 of his 15 passing attempts for 192 yards and one touchdown, to go along with his nine rushes for 46 yards and one rushing touchdown. Brookshire has been a huge key for the Aztecs success this season. Junior safety Patrick McMorris had two interceptions in the win. The Aztecs defense managed to keep Broncos sophmore running back George Holani in check. Holani had 20 rushes for 70 yards in the loss. Boise State will await which bowl game they play in. While SDSU plays Utah State in the MW Championship game on Dec. 4th.

Hawai’i (6-7, 3-5 MW) 38. Wyoming (6-6, 2-6 MW) 14.

The Paniolo Trophy was claimed by the Rainbow Warriors as they decimated the Cowboys on Saturday in Laramie, Wyoming. Junior quarterback Chevan Cordeiro torched Wyoming’s defense as he ompleted 19 of his 31 passing attempts for 323 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also has 14 rushes for 86 yards and one rushing touchdown. The win means the Rainbow Warriors are bowl eligible. It was a tough day for the Cowboys offense as they could not get any momentum going. Senior running back Xazavian Valladay had 13 rushes for only 42 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Neyor had three catches for 78 yards and one touchdown in the loss. Both teams now wait to see if they will be selected for a bowl game.

Nevada (8-4, 5-3 MW) 52. Colorado State (3-9, 2-6 MW) 10.

The Wolf Pack were all over the Rams on Saturday in Fort Collins, Colorado. Nevada posted 528 total yards in the game. The defense was led by senior linebacker Daiyan Henley and senior defensive back Jordan Lee, who both had 10 tackles in the win. Junior quarterback Carson Strong finished off the regular season with one of his best games of the year. He completed 18 of his 23 passing attempts for 299 yards and four touchdowns. Strong now has one more bowl game before he heads off to the NFL Draft. Rams senior tight end Trey McBride had the lone touchdown for his team off of a 69 yard touchdown run. Nevada will wait and see which bowl game they will play in. Colorado State’s season has come to an end.

Air Force (9-3, 6-2 MW) 48. UNLV (2-10, 2-6 MW) 14.

The Falcons offense literally ran all over the Rebels on Saturday at the Air Force Acadamy in Colorado. The team posted 511 rushing yards and zero passing yards with six rushing touchdowns as a team. The rushing attack was led by full back Elijah Robinson, who had 12 rushes for 123 yards and one touchdown. Junior running back Brad Roberts also had a solid game, with 16 rushes for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Rebels senior running back Charles Williams put on a show in his final collegiate game. Williams had 16 rushes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, as he was the only Rebel to find the end zone in the loss. Air Force will await its bowl game fate. UNLV will look to continue to rebuild next season.

Utah State (9-3, 6-2 MW) 35. New Mexico (3-8, 1-6 MW) 10.

The Aggies were able to secure a spot in the Mountain West Championship Game after a convincing win against the Lobos. Junior quarterback Logan Bonner lit up the stat sheet, completing 16 of his 22 passing attempts for 312 yards and five touchdowns. His favorite target was senior wide receiver Derek Wright, who had four catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns. The lone Lobo touchdown came from freshman quarterback Bryson Carroll, who managed to find senior tight end Kyle Jarvis for a 12 yard score. Utah State will play in the MW Championship game against No.21 SDSU on Saturday at 12 p.m. New Mexico’s season ends on a sour note.

Fresno State (9-3, 6-2 MW) 40. San Jose State (5-7, 3-5 MW) 9.

The Bulldogs came into San Jose and ripped “The Battle Of The Valley” trophy right out of the Spartans hands. Senior quarterback Jake Haener finished the regular season on a strong note. Haener completed 27 of his 36 passing attempts for 343 yards and four touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Jalen Cropper had the lone rushing touchdown on the day. The Spartans faltered towards the end of the season. The team finished the year on a three game losing streak. Graduate quarterback Nick Starkel completed 19 of his 42 passing attempts for 260 yards in his final college game. Fresno State will play in a bowl game. SJSU will have some big holes to fill next season as they head into the offseason.
