Seattle hands SJSU regular season finale loss

By Dan Nguyen — Reporter

Heavy rain, winds and sleet hit the ground at Championship Field Saturday night. San Jose State played through the wet conditions and finished with a win streak that got washed away.

SJSU (9-5-3, 7-1-2 WAC) fell 2-1 against Seattle University (11-7, 7-3 WAC), ending the Spartan’s seven-game win streak.

The surging Spartans fell behind 1-0 early, yet they managed to continue their offensive strategy and attempted shots on goal forcing pressure on Seattle.

Senior midfielder Willy Miranda scored the equalizer in the 20th minute, but that would not be enough to finish the regular season off with a win.

Seattle sophomore midfielder Levonte Johnson scored two first-half goals (’18, ’42) that propelled the Redhawks to victory.

Despite the streak-ending defeat, the Spartans finished with maximum effort. SJSU put nine of its 19 shots on goal.

But a wall was placed at the Redhawks’ goal post.

Seattle senior goalkeeper Akili Kasim was flat-out undeterred by the Spartan effort and finished with eight saves for the Redhawks.

The Spartans finish the regular season 9-6-3 overall and 7-2-2 in the WAC. This productive season has earned SJSU the No. 4 seed in the upcoming WAC tournament.

The Spartans will take on Utah Valley on Nov. 10 at 3:30 p.m. PT.
