Women’s tennis preview: SJSU hosts final fall weekend tournament

By Kassandra Zeledon — Reporter

San Jose State women’s tennis will be hosting and playing in the Santa Clara Hidden Duals from November 5th-7th.

This is the Spartans third tournament of the season. The previous  tournament was the ITA northwest regional championship in Stanford.

SJSU will be going against eight  teams in the tournament: CSU Northridge, University of the Pacific, Nevada, Saint Mary’s, San Francisco State and  Santa Clara University who will be co-hosting with SJSU .

Even though Santa Clara and San Jose are co-hosting, Santa Clara will be having a tournament on their field during the same time and dates as San Jose. So if you would like to see only San Jose compete you can see them at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

The Spartans are welcoming back some 2020 Mountain West honorees to their team. The list includes sophomore Irena Muradyan, senior Alba Pedrero Galindo, junior Lara Marco Mas as well as four other players. The Spartans also are welcoming newcomer Olaya Bances Iglesias as this is her first year from Spain.

Someone fans should watch out on the field is sophomore Jovana Babic. Last season she had 6 doubles and 3 singles under her racket and finished with a 7-3 record.

Also keep an eye out for senior Alba Pedrero Galindo. She finished her last season with an 11-4 record.

With Galindo and Babic as long as the rest of the girls on the team the Spartans will be unstoppable this weekend at the tournament.

SJSU will play a doubles match at 12 p.m. followed by a singles match at 1 p.m. beginning on Friday. This schedule will repeat until Sunday.
