Spartans place third in the final tournament of the fall schedule.

San Jose State Men’s Golf completed their fall schedule with a third-place finish in the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.

15 teams played at the Stockton Country Club to compete in three rounds on a course that is 6,566 yards long with a rating of 70.8. 

The Spartans stayed within the top five throughout the tournament that began on Thursday Oct. 21 and ended Saturday Oct. 23.

On Thursday, the Spartans finished in fourth out of the 15 teams participating.

Washington State University held on to first in the opening round with a score of 268 along with Bringham Young and St Mary’s in second and third.

Juniors Caleb Shetler and Carl Corpus both shot 3-under 68’s and tied for 11th. 

Shetler had four birdies, eight pars and an eagle on fifth hole.

Corpus started with a par, birdie and two bogeys but changed the pace with shooting 4-under par on his final 14 holes with four birdies and 10 pars.

Sophomore Kristopher Stiles had the teams only other eagle as well as shooting 1-under 70 to finish tied for 25th and a total score of 211

The Spartans moved up to second place after round two on Friday  playing in one of their best rounds of the fall season.

Shelter shota 5 -under- 66 with Stiles and Corpus each scoring 2-under-par 69.

Freshman Nick Watts also came into the mix shooting a 4-under-par 67. 

The Spartans headed into the third round with good standing at second place of the pack.

The Spartans lost track and fell to third place to finish off the tournament.

Overall, SJSU finished with 162 pars, 62 birdies and a tournament leading four eagles.

The Spartans will shelter for the winter until their next scheduled tournament on January 24 at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. 

Shelter finished off with a total score of 205 which was first on the team for San Jose State.

Corpus ended with a score of 208 and freshman Nick Watts was third with 209.

As for the individual rounds freshman Zubair Firdaus was outstanding placing second in the tournament with a total score of 209.
