Women’s soccer preview: Spartans welcome Aztecs to Spartan spirit day

By Autumn Blue — Reporter

The San Jose State women’s soccer team (7-8, 4-3-0 MW) will be hosting the San Diego State Aztecs (6-9, 4-3-0 MW)  this Sunday on their Senior game/Spartan Spirit Day.

The Spartans are coming from a win against the University of Mexico Lobos (9-4-1, 4-2-1 MW) this previous Thursday.

This game was highly anticipated since the Lobos are known as the top scoring team in the Mountain West conference.

SJSU did not let them discourage them and managed to shut out the Lobos 1-0.

Sophomore forward Evan House scored the first and only point against the Lobos during the second period.

Freshman goalkeeper Autum Monty ended her night with a season high of six saves.

The Spartans can hopefully continue their heat going into their match against the Aztecs.

SDSU is coming from a loss against Fresno State (7-4-3, 5-1-1 MW) Thursday night 1-0.

The Bulldogs managed to score against the Aztecs in overtime.

In terms of statistics SDSU has a slight advantage against SJSU.

The Spartans have 178 shots per game compared to Aztecs’ 160, Spartan’s with nine assists compared to Aztecs’ 13, Spartan’s with 68 saves compared to Aztecs’ 78.

Though SDSU has a slight, practically minuscule, advantage against SJSU, there is a good probability the Spartans will end victorious Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans versus the Aztecs will be a game head-to-head of who will best the other.

Hopefully the Spartans can continue the heat leaving the Aztecs to continue their two game streak.

Join the women’s soccer team on their Senior Day playing Sunday October 17th at 12 p.m. at the Spartan Soccer Complex or on the Mountain West Network.
