SJSU men’s water polo (8-9, 0-0) defeated the Navy Midshipmen (6-10, 1-1) in a low-scoring affair, 7-4.
If one merely glances at the final score, you might assume that the defense must have been outstanding in this game.
You wouldn’t be wrong, but not entirely correct either.
In this game, the Spartans put up 35 shots and were only able to drain seven, which would only be good for a .200 shot percentage.
SJSU, however, was successful on three of six powerplays.
Luckily, Navy was just as bad on the offensive end, as they finished the game with only four points on 40 shots and a .100 shot percentage.
The Midshipmen were only able to convert two of seven powerplays.
Strangely enough, there were only seven exclusions on both sides and no penalty fouls or penalty shots, both sides played a clean game.
Goalkeepers on each team had their hands full, as they combined for 34 saves.
Spartans’ senior goalkeeper Yahav Fire had 20 saves in the match and only allowed four goals against him.
Navy sophomore goalkeeper Caden Capobianco finished the game with 14 saves and two steals but was edged out by SJSU offense as he allowed seven saves against him.
The game was likely put on ice due to the final point the Spartans scored that pushed the lead to four with only 1:48 minutes left in the game which came from the hands of sophomore Marko Radanovich.
