SJSU look to control Air Force

After five off days, the Spartans (2-4-1) are back and they will be taking on Air Force (1-4-1) in a Saturday matinee.

‘Twas a much-needed few days off for SJSU, their last win came on Sept. 5 against UC Davis where they dominated the Aggies, 5-2.

The Spartans showed off their offensive might in that game 19 days ago but have since fallen on hard times.

In that time span, they’ve ended a game in a tie, but have most recently taken three straight losses.

The latest loss was handed down by the University of Pacific Tigers, 4-1.

In that game, the Spartans put up 11 shots with six of those on goal, but it wasn’t good enough as the Tigers tallied 19 shots with ten on goal.

UoP met the back of the net four times in their victory, while the Spartans’ defense had no answer for them.

Junior goalkeeper David Sweeney had his hands with four saves in the loss.

On the season, Sweeney pushed his save tally to 15.

As for their opponent this afternoon, Air Force University is currently scuffling with four losses through five games thus far.

They are coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 loss against the University of Denver, the game-winning shot came in the 84’ minute of the game.

However, in that game, both teams were miserable offensively.

Combined there were 16 shot opportunities, but only five of those were on goal.

The Spartans will look to capitalize on the lack of offensive might by Air Force and snap their three-game skid in Colorado at 11 a.m. on the WAC Digital Network.
