The San Jose State (5-4, 0-0 MW) volleyball team was able to defend home turf on Thursday against the University of San Francisco (0-7, 0-0 WCC), 3-0.
Coming into the match, the Spartans were on a three game losing streak. However, that didn’t seem to matter too much as the Spartans won all three sets: 25-14, 25-17 and 25-21.
“I’m not concerned about bouncing back, I’m just concerned about playing consistent high level volleyball,” said head coach Trent Kersten. “I felt like the team did that this week during practice and I’m glad we got the result we wanted.”
Junior outside hitter Amethyst Harper led the way for the Spartans with a team high 12 kills in the win. It was a big contribution to the Spartans who out killed the Dons 48-24.
Graduate outside hitter Latahvai Lousi also had a nice game with 11 kills and three digs.
“We came back to our values of love, competitiveness and discipline,” said Lousi. “Our main focus right now is to play our best for the rest of the season.”
It was also a historic night for Lousi as she was able to collect her 1,000th kill in her volleyball career.
“I gotta thank all my teammates who helped me get my 1,000th kill. I couldn’t have done it without them.” said Lousi.
The Spartans will play their next game at home against UC San Diego on Saturday.
“We take it one day at a time. We are gonna practice, be a blue collar team and get ready for UC San Diego and conference play after that,” said Kersten.
Meanwhile, the Dons will look for their first win of the season on Friday also against UC San Diego.
