San Jose State men’s soccer (2-3-1) was defeated 2-0 after a battle with the University of San Diego Tritons (2-4).
The Spartans have now lost back-to-back games for the first time since October 11-13.
Both teams locked down the defensive side of the ball, as each push was met with a stop.
The eventual game-winning shots came at the 72’ and 86’ minutes of the match.
Tritons’ senior defender Noah Sonenstein opened the scoring with a strong right kick that met the bottom left of the net.
Sophomore midfielder Omar Sabbagh put the game on ice, as he scored the dagger to push the score to 2-0 with just thirteen minutes left to play.
While Spartans’ sophomore goalkeeper Eric Waltz allowed just two goals against, he kept the Tritons off the board by totaling five saves in the match.
On the other hand, UCSD redshirt senior goalkeeper Dominic Peters was a brick wall, as he blocked four shot attempts by the Spartans.
Spartans’ senior midfielder Willy Miranda was held scoreless as he had two shots on goal but was denied by the Tritons.
As a team, SJSU put up ten shots, which is lower than their season average coming into the game (12.2 shots per game). Only four of those shots were on target.
SJSU will look to pick themselves up, as they head into their next matchup against the University of the Pacific on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. on the WCC Network.
