By Don Le-Reporter

The San Jose State women’s volleyball team (4-4) face off against University of San Francisco (0-6) Thursday Sept. 16 in a non-conference game at Spartan Gym.

Statistically speaking, the Spartans lead the Dons in every statistical category.

San Jose State has 356 kills compared to USF’s 209 kills, 334 assists compared to USF’s 182 assists, 56 aces compared to USF’s 19 aces, and 432 digs compared to USF’s 269.

But don’t be mistaken, a win on Thursday is not a given since both teams are coming in on losing streaks.

The Spartans are coming off a three-game losing streak from the Buffs Invitational Tournament last weekend in Boulder, Colo.

They most recently got swept 3-0 on Sept. 11 against Texas Tech University.

Senior outside hitter Haylee Nelson got a team-high 14 kills while Mia Schafer accrued 17 digs and 32 assists in the loss.

On the bright side, senior libero Sarah Smevog was named to the Buffs Invitational All-Tournament team after averaging 4.30 digs and 1.40 assists per set last weekend.

As for the Dons, they are looking for their first win of the season Thursday.

The USF Dons have lost six consecutive games. They most recently fell 3-1 to Cal State Bakersfield on Sept. 11.

USF right-side hitter Taylor Schein tied her career-high with 11 kills while USF middle blocker Orsula Staka had a season high five blocks in that loss.

Staka is currently ranked third in the West Coast Conference in hitting percentage with .387.

This is the Spartan’s second home game with live fans in attendance this semester.

Catch the game tonight at Spartan Gym at 6 p.m.
