Coming off a strong win against Southern Utah University on Friday afternoon, the San Jose State women’s soccer team looked for its second win of the road trip.
The Spartans (2-3-0, 0-0-0 MW) fell short as they were defeated by Utah Valley University (4-2-0, 0-0-0 WAC) by a score of 2-0.
Both teams came out with aggressive energy eager to gain control of the ball early in the game.
Things got chippy quickly with both sides drawing four fouls each in the first 20 minutes of the match.
The Spartans got their offense going attempting five shots with two of those being on goal but could not find the back of the net in the first half.
After a slow start, the Wolverines slowly clawed their way back creating some chances on offense.
The scrappy back and forth battle between both squads continued with each team desperately looking for the opening goal.
The Wolverines were able to gain the lead late in the 42nd minute thanks to forward London Miller.
SJSU would have some work to do as they entered the second half.
Utah Valley’s offense remained hot after finding its stride in the 1st half. The Wolverines were able to double their lead in the 55thminute courtesy of forward Sadie Brockbank.
The Spartans could not find the same success on offense only attempting two shots in the entire second half compared to the Wolverines nine.
The referees were busy this game with a total of 25 fouls called between both teams. The Spartans finished with 9 fouls and Utah Valley with 16 fouls.
SJSU continued to push in an attempt to rally back but failed to do so as the clock hit 90:00 minutes.
The Spartans will look to get back on track as they return home to host Loyola Marymount this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
