San Jose State has hired Tim Miles to be the next men’s basketball head coach, the school announced Tuesday.
Miles returns to the Mountain West after nine years, beginning his MW coaching career with Colorado State in 2007.
In his last season with the Rams in 2012, he directed the team to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2003 where they lost in the first round to Murray State.
Later that March, Miles was hired by Nebraska after the school fired Doc Sadler.
In just his second season with the Huskers, Miles guided Nebraska to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998, ultimately losing in the first round to Baylor.
After three years of struggles, Miles finally broke through again with a 22-11 record in 2018 and set a program record 13 conference wins. Despite that his team failed to make it to the NCAA tournament, and in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament that season.
In his next and last season with Nebraska, Miles led the Huskers to a 10-2 start and a top 25 ranking before injuries would derail their season, missing out on the NCAA tournament.
Miles was relieved of his duties at the end of the season.
Since then he has been an analyst for Fox Sports, covering college basketball since the beginning of the 2019-20 season
He finished as the third winningest head coach in Nebraska men’s basketball history and brings a winning history and postseason experience to a San Jose State team that has struggled for much of its history.
Miles brings a 399-334 (.544) overall coaching record and a postseason record of 4-8 to the Spartans as the new face of the team.
