Final Round

It was not easy but San Jose State women’s golf managed to earn another top 10 finish.

The Spartans finished in eighth place at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. SJSU finished the tournament at a 22-over-par 886 which was miles behind Oklahoma State who got their second title of the season after coming back from a seven shot deficit.

The Cowgirls shot a third round score of 844 to finish at 20-under par  to finish two clear of Texas, who will be left wondering what could have been.

Spartan sophomore Kajsa Arwefjall got her fourth straight top five finish of the season. She shot an even par 72 to finish at five under par to tie for fourth  place.

Junior Antonia Malate shot a one-under 71 to finish the tournament at four over par. She finished in a tie for 23rd.

Freshman Jordyn Parr finished in 48th place at 12 over par. She shot a 6-over-par 78 as her putter went ice cold.

Fellow freshman Louisa Carlbom had another nightmare on a par-3. She got a triple bogey on the 11th hole to shoot a 5-over 77. She finished in a tie for 49th at 13 over par.

Sophomore Jadan Gonzalez finished in a tie for 53rd at 15 over par as she shot a 7-over-par 79.

OSU also took home the individual title as sophomore Maja Stark got her second win of the season. She shot a 3-under 69 which included a birdie on the par-5 16th. She went into cruise control finishing at 11 under par, three clear of Houston freshman Zoe Slaughter.

Head coach Dana Dormann will keep her team in Arizona for the rest of the week. The team will take the hour drive up north to Phoenix when they will play in the Ping ASU Invitational.

SJSU will look to heat up their putters in the desert for the three-day event.

The tournament will be from Friday to Sunday at Papago Golf Club.

Second Round

The good times continue to roll for Kajsa Arwefjall.

The San Jose State sophomore shot a five-under 67 to put herself into contention at the Mountain View Collegiate.  She started her day on the back nine where she made her lone bogey on par-4 15th hole.

She went on a tear after that, making four birdies and eight pars to put herself three shots back of Oklahoma State sophomore Maja Stark. Stark started the day three shots back but  shot a five-under 67 to gain a one shot lead. Stark sits at eight under par which is one clear of Houston freshman Zoe Slaughter.

Texas freshman Ashley Park experienced a rocky second round. She dropped from the top of the leaderboard with five bogeys and shot a three-over 75 to finish at 3 under par. She is currently in a tie for ninth

The Spartans continued to battle and try to get themselves back inside the top five. Junior Antonia Malate shot a 1-over 73 to sit at five over for the tournament. She is currently in a tie for 35th.

Freshman Jordyn Parr did not record a single birdie on her round. She went in the opposite direction as she shot a 4-over 76. She is currently in a tie for 40th at six over par.

Freshman Louisa Carlbom shot a dismal 6-over 78. Her round included a triple bogey on the par-3 6th hole. She is currently in a tie for 52nd at eight over par. Also sitting at eight over is sophomore Jadan Gonzalez.

Gonzalez shot a 5-over 77 which included going five over on her first six holes.

SJSU did climb up one spot into eighth place. The problem is that they are 12 over par which is miles behind current leader Texas.

The No. 31 ranked Longhorns extended their lead to seven after they shot a second round 2-under 286. They currently sit at the top of the leaderboard at 18 under with Iowa State trailing at 11 under.

The Spartans begin their final round off of the front nine at 8 a.m.

First Round

Kajsa Arwefjall has been the human torch so far this season.

The reigning Mountain West golfer of the week continued her stellar play with an even par 72. She sits six shots back of Texas freshman Ashley Park who fired a 6-under 66 to lead the individual leaderboard. Arwefjall is currently tied for 20th place.

SJSU saw a lot of highs and lows during their opening round. Freshman Jordyn Parr had three birdies on her scorecard but made five bogeys to shoot a 2-over 74. Fellow freshman Louisa Carlbom also followed suit with a 2-over 74. Both currently sit in a tie for 39th.

Sophomore Jadan Gonzales made a clutch eagle on the par-5 3rd hole. But encountered the bogey train, making eight on her way to a 3-over 75. She is currently in a tie for 43rd.

The real surprise of the day was Antonia Malate’s round. The junior came off of a runner up finish at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational last week. Those good vibes did come with her to the desert.

She shot a 4-over 76 which included a quadruple bogey on the first hole. She currently sits in a tie for 49th.

The Spartans shot a team total 7-over 295 which puts them in ninth place. Texas stormed their way to a six shot lead after shooting a 16-under 272.  Houston and Iowa State shot 10-under 278 as they share a tie for second.

SJSU will start their second round at 9:15 a.m. off of the 10th hole.
