San Jose State’s men’s water polo (0-4, 0-2 GCC) is still seeking its first win of the season.
The Spartans take on the Santa Clara University Broncos (1-0, 0-0 WCC) who edged SJSU with a score of 11-10 on Sunday, Feb. 28.
San Jose State’s junior driver Ben Hauschild led the team with one goal and three assists for four points. Freshman utility Gal Haimovich notched three goals for three points and junior driver Ary Kamen had two goals for two points.
Junior goalie Mason Smith and sophomore goalie Noah Pendleton split the crease playing sixteen minutes each. Smith allowed five goals on 10 shots and Pendleton let in six goals on 10 shots. Pendleton was cursed with the loss.
In the same game, sophomore attacker Jake Taylor and junior attacker Matt Peterson both controlled the pool for the Broncos. Taylor scored one goal and four assists for five points and Peterson alongside had three goals under his belt.
The Santa Clara freshmen additionally contributed to the scoring. Center Cody Ferguson belted four goals, attacker Blake D’Souza had one goal and one assist for two points and utility Dominic Kirk scored one goal and one assist for two points.
Freshmen Goalies Sean Tehaney and Chase Zamborelli equally shared the crease playing 16 minutes each. Tehaney permitted four goals on 11 shots and Zamborelli gave up six goals on eight shots with Zamborelli closing out the win.
Now in the second straight matchup against one another, SJSU looks for its first win of the season and Santa Clara looks to start the year 2-0.
