San Jose State women’s tennis will return for its first match of the 2021 season Friday when it visits the University of California, Irvine.
The Spartans last match against Cal State Fullerton ended in a 4-3 Fullerton victory on March 1, 2020 before having the rest of the season canceled because of the ongoing pandemic.
SJSU has six returning players and three new players for the 2020-2021 roster.
Senior Klara Milojkovic has won a total of 16 sets in the singles matches for SJSU.
Sophomore Lara Marco Mas had an impressive performance last season versus Grand Canyon University when she scored two match-winning points that lifted the Spartans to a 5-2 win.
UCI has no lack of talent on its roster either.
The Anteaters’ doubles team had graduate senior Stephanie Nguyen and junior Alyssia Fossorier last season, who dominated most of their games averaging around six wins per match.
UCI graduate student Arianna Tilbury could be a threat to the Spartans since she won a total of 33 singles games last season.
The Spartans were on a four-game losing streak before the season was canceled. They will look to register their first win since the victory against GCU on Feb. 15, 2020.
This is the first contest between the Spartans and the Anteaters since May 11, 2013.
