Mountain West football round-up: Week 4

Here are the scores and notes from around the Mountain West.

Boise State (3-1, 3-0 MW): 52, Colorado State (1-2): 21

The Broncos were able to get every facet going to beat the Rams in a Thursday night matchup. The defense of BSU was able to come up big by blocking three CSU kicking opportunities. Broncos quarterback Hank Bachmeier threw for 202 yards and one touchdown while junior running back Andrew Van Buren had 13 rushes for 28 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams’ senior quarterback Patrick O’Brien only completed nine passes all game. On Saturday the Broncos will go on the road to face Hawai’i, while the Rams go to face the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. 

Nevada (4-0): 27, New Mexico (0-3): 20

The Wolf Pack got a strong showing from sophomore quarterback Carson Strong, who threw for 336 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. All three of those touchdowns were caught by junior wide receiver Romeo Doubs. The Lobos were carried by Junior running back Bobby Cole, who rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown. Nevada will look to stay undefeated at home against San Diego State University on Saturday. New Mexico will go on the road and try to get its first win of the season against Air Force on Friday.

San Diego State (3-1): 34, Hawaii (2-2): 10

Junior running back Greg Bell was all the offense for the Aztecs, running for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Senior linebacker/safety Segun Olubi helped the cause by having an interception for a touchdown. For Hawai’i senior running back Calvin Turner only managed to muster 39 rushing yards all game for the Rainbow Warriors, but he did have four catches for 116 yards and one touchdown. It was the lone score for the UH offense. The Aztecs will go on the road to face Nevada on Saturday. While the Rainbow Warriors play host to Boise State University later that day.

Fresno State (3-1): 35, Utah State (0-4): 16

The Bulldogs were led by junior quarterback Jake Haener, who threw for 422 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. Three of those touchdowns went to sophomore wide receiver Jalen Cropper. He also had 10 catches for 202 yards. For the Aggies, senior running back Jaylen Warren rushed for 136 yards and one touchdown while senior wide receiver Savon Scarver had a kick return for a touchdown in the first quarter. Utah State will look to notch their first win on the road Thursday against Wyoming. While the Bulldogs will play host to rival San Jose State on Saturday in the “Battle for the Valley Trophy.”

Air Force (1-2, 0-2 MW), Wyoming (1-2): Canceled
