San Jose State softball has hired Leticia Olivarez as the team’s pitching coach, the team announced today.
This is her second stint at South Campus as SJSU’s pitching coach. She held the same position in 2017 and 2018 under former head coach Peter Turner as the Spartans registered ERA’s of 3.00 and 3.30, respectively, in Olivarez’s two seasons.
Olivarez spent the last two seasons in the same position at Texas Tech. In 2019 the Red Raiders 4th in the Big 12 Conference and reached the Women’s College World Series regionals.
Olivarez joins Tammy Lohmann’s first coaching staff as the Spartans’ head coach, taking over the job after Turner was relieved of his duties earlier this year.
“Her wealth of knowledge and experience in pitcher development, as well as her experience in the Mountain West Conference and NCAA postseason truly sets her apart in our game,” Lohmann said in the announcement.
“Her passion for the game and our student athletes, along with her connections recruiting both locally and nationally, will not only evaluate our pitching staff, but our program as a whole.”
