San Jose State Softball continued their great play during the Silicon Valley Classic with four commanding wins over the likes of California Baptist University, Cal Poly, Yale and North Dakota to push its program-record winning streak to 14.

Shannon Haddad (8-1) continued her brilliant freshman season against CBU with her complete five-inning game with 11 strikeouts.  The Spartans provided her with plenty of run support in a 9-0 mercy-rule win.

Haddad would shine again in the second game of the day against Cal Poly.  After five strong innings from fellow freshman Ilona Sullivan (3-0), Haddad was brought in to close out the final two innings.

Only needing 25 pitches to get the job done, Haddad threw 19 of them for strikes while only allowing one hit to record her second save of the season in a 3-1 win.

Shortstop Rayohna Sagapolu led the offense on day one with three hits and a sacrifice.

“I didn’t even know we had a streak,” said Sagapolu after pushing the team winning streak to 12.

SJSU’s great pitching continued on day two where reigning Mountain West Pitcher of the Year Jenessa Ullegue (1-1) showed her skills.

In a 3-0 win against Yale, Ullegue took a no-hit bid into the 6th inning.  With one out in the sixth, she allowed a single up the middle that spoiled the no-hitter in her complete-game shutout.

In their final game of the weekend, SJSU jumped on North Dakota with a four-run first inning en route to a 12-4 victory.  The Fighting Hawks responded with a four-run inning of their own in the third but after that, the Spartans ran away with eight runs over the next three innings.

“They know we have a streak,” said head coach Peter Turner.  “I said the streak will end when it ends and it’ll make somebody beat us and I’m okay with that.”

SJSU will look to continue its winning streak Wednesday against Santa Clara University.  The first pitch will be at 6 p.m. at Spartan Softball Field.
