Tyra Whitehead scored 16 points, as San Jose State women’s basketball fell to Boise State on Wednesday 85-67.
SJSU fell to 9-6 in the Mountain West after starting conference play 9-1.
Following Whitehead with 11 points apiece was senior Fieme’a Hafoka and junior Cydni Lewis.
The Spartans (15-11, 9-6 MW) shot nearly 37 percent from the field compared to the Broncos (19-9, 11-5 MW) who shot 49 percent.
Boise State was also able to perform better at the three-point line. While the Spartans only made one of their 15 attempts from the three-point line, the Broncos were much more consistent, shooting 11-for-25 from deep.
Both teams were relatively even on the boards, with the Broncos grabbing 43 rebounds to the Spartans’ 35. But Boise State out-performed SJSU in transition, scoring 24 fast-break points to the Spartans 10.
The Spartans’ problems arose early, scoring only nine points in the first quarter. Despite cutting the Broncos lead to 32-26 in the second quarter, they couldn’t take the lead, as Boise State extended their lead over SJSU by as much as 24.
The Spartans will be looking to break their losing streak on Saturday, when they play Colorado State at home. Tip off will be at 2 p.m.
