Men’s soccer finishes road trip winless

California Baptist University’s (3-2-1 WAC) two goals in the first half proved to be enough against the San Jose State men’s soccer team (2-3-1 WAC) on Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 victory.

A big contributor to the result was Lancers’ senior goalkeeper, Albert Escuin, who leads the Western Athletic Conference in two categories: save percentage (.824) and saves (70).

The Lancers came out the gate with a fifth-minute goal to give them an early 1-0 lead.

Cal Baptist did not stop there as it extended its lead to two with a goal in the 40th minute.

The Spartans felt the pressure of the Lancers as they were outshot 9-2 at half time.

California Baptist shutout the Spartans until the 83th minute of the match.

Senior defender Angel Farias found the back of the net as the lone goal of the match for the Spartans. Farias now has two goals on the season.

Spartans flipped the script and out shot the Lancers in the second half 9-5, in an attempt to complete the comeback.

Unable to complete the comeback, the Spartans sit in the No. 6 spot in the WAC.

Spartans were unable to snag a win on their longest road trip of the season. However they did get one point against Grand Canyon University.

Road games have been a bumpy road for the Spartans as they have yet to win one out of the seven they’ve had.

Spartans come back home for their next match against Utah Valley on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
