Spartans and Rams get chippy in Colorado

San Jose State women’s soccer (4-7-3, 2-3-1 MW) falters to Colorado State University (9-4-1, 4-2-0 MW) in Sunday’s matchup by a score of 1-2.

The Spartans were scoreless in the first half of the game as junior defender Karlee Pottorff had the only shot on goal.

Both teams had nine fouls in the first half of the game, which skyrocketed to 31 after a chippy second half.

The Rams were up by two to start the second half of the game. 

The Spartans netted one of five shots on goal in the second half.

In the 57th minute, senior defender Kristen Amarikwa was assisted by freshman midfielder Sabrina Weinman to score the first goal for the Spartans. 

This was Amerikwa’s first goal of the season. 

In the second half, the Rams had three goal-scoring opportunities that they could not capitalize on. 

In the last minutes of the game, there were two chances given to SJSU. 

Senior forward Jamilecxth Becerra took a shot at the Ram’s goal but was unsuccessful. 

Less than a minute away from the end of the game, redshirt senior forward Jennifer Orozco drove the ball towards the net but was saved by the Ram’s goalie. 

The team returns back home to play against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
