The National Football Foundation announced Wednesday 185 worthy candidates for the 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy. The accolades keep coming for the Spartans, as this stacked list includes San Jose State’s very own Josh Love.

The Campbell Award recognizes Division I senior or graduate football players across the country for their academic achievements, contribution to the football team and leadership quality.

To qualify for this award, the player must have at least a 3.2 GPA and must play an important role in their team’s success.

The 12-14 finalists will be announced on Oct. 30. Each finalist will receive $18,000 as a postgraduate scholarship and will be a member of the 2019 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class.

In SJSU’s football program history, only one has been apart of this class, former wide receiver Tim Crawley Jr. in 2016.

Former Spartan football player Bryce Crawford was a semi-finalist for this award a year ago.

The finalists will travel to New York on Dec. 10 and will be apart of the 62nd NFF Annual Awards dinner, where their accomplishments will be celebrated in front of a national audience.

The 30th winner of the award will also be announced during this dinner, where he will get to take home the 25-pound bronze trophy along with a $7,000 increase of their postgraduate scholarship, totaling in $25,000.

Past winners of this prestigious award include Peyton Manning, Chad Pennington and Tim Tebow.

Josh Love has played exceptional in his four-year tenure, with a QBR of 100.9, 101.4, 122.9 and 138.1.

This year he is off to a hot start and is on pace to obliterate his numbers from his previous years.

The senior quarterback had just received Mountain West Player of the Week on Monday after his brilliant performance during the Spartans’ upset win against Arkansas.
