San Jose State baseball (18-19,12-6 MW) suffered another non-conference loss against St. Mary’s College (21-15,15-1 BW) Tuesday, 14-1.
The game marks SJSU’s 11th straight non-conference loss on the season.
Freshman pitcher Jackson Ertz got the call to make his first collegiate start. He pitched for 2 innings and gave up 2 earned runs in the first.
Freshman left-hander Ben Polack came in for relief for 2 innings. He was a part of a five-run inning that allowed SMC to open up the its lead to 7-0 by the third inning.
The Gaels’ offense was led by freshman infielder Bryce Willits, who ended the game with 3 RBIs and a run scored.
The SJSU offense had chances to tack on runs, however it stranded seven players on bases, which was detrimental to the team’s efforts of closing the scoring gap.
The Spartans put up a run on the scoreboard in the eighth inning when sophomore infielder Santiago Cantu reached on fielding error that plated freshman catcher Ryan Belluomini.
SJSU will return to Excite Ballpark for a conference battle against rivals Fresno State starting Thursday.
First pitch will be at 6 p.m.
