Spartans make history in huge win over Fresno State

San Jose State tennis (8-7, 1-2 MW) defeated Fresno State (8-11, 0-3 MW) for the first time in program history Friday, 4-3.

The Spartans were able to end their three-match losing streak. This was the first victory in 20 matches played all-time against the Bulldogs.

After doubles, the Spartans trailed 1-0. Senior Miyo Kobayashi and sophomore Laura Malsert were the only double teams to win their match.

This was 143rd combined singles and doubles win for Kobayashi as she became SJSU’s all-time leader in career victories.

The Bulldogs had a 2-0 advantage as Georgia Lawson defeated sophomore Savannah Sendar, 6-0, 6-2.

Malsert won her singles match and cut SJSU’s shortage to 2-1. Tamara Culibrk was able to tie the score with her straight-set wins.

The last two singles matches lead the team to the victory.

Freshman Alba Pedrero Galindo played at No. 3 singles and concluded a straight-set win, 7-6, 6-1.

Sophomore Klara Milojkovic continued her success in dual match singles and extended her record to 10-2. She defeated her Fresno State opponent 7-5, 2-6 and 7-5.

Milojkovic is the only undefeated singles player in three-set matches.
The Spartans will head to Sacramento State (7-10, 5-2 MW) in their next conference matchup Wednesday at 1 p.m.
