Wortman places in top-20, men’s golf finishes 13th in The Goodwin

Behind a final round of 289, San Jose State men’s golf finished The Goodwin Invitational 13th out of 27 teams in Stanford.

The Spartans kept their same pace throughout the weekend and were led by sophomore Matt Heitel and junior Sean Yu in the final round.

Heitel ended the last day atop the Spartan competitors with an even par 70. Yu followed close behind by only one stroke with a 71.

Sophomore Bryce Wortman and junior Nate Jetter also contributed to the Spartans final day and ended with 73 and 75, respectively.

SJSU’s total for the weekend was 868 — one stroke away from placing in the top-10.

Individually, Wortman had his best invitational finish of the year and topped out in the top-20 for the first time. He tied for 19th place at 214.

Yu tied for 37th at 216 while senior Kevin Velo and Jetter tied for 70th at 222.

The Spartans will be in Santa Cruz to host the 73rd Western Intercollegiate from April 15 to April 17.
