San Jose State softball (22-9, 2-0 MW) put together a solid 4-2 win Saturday afternoon against Fresno State to pick up its 12th straight victory.
The Spartans’ pitching was key as it has been all season. Freshman Jenessa Ullegue continued her strong season and only allowed the Bulldogs (15-11, 0-5 MW) 2 hits and a single earned run in 4 innings of work.
Senior infielder and relief pitcher Madison Aurin finished the job for SJSU. In her 3 innings in the circle, Aurin also only gave up 3 hits and 1 earned run to the Bulldogs.
The Spartan bats weren’t extremely hot Saturday, but they got the job done when it mattered most. A sacrifice fly from Aurin allowed SJSU to jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Spartans put up one more run in the second and the Bulldogs got their first run in the third.
The fourth inning was when the Spartans jumped out to a 4-1 advantage. The first run of the frame came from junior outfielder Kaelin Amrein as she knocked an RBI double to right center.
Amrein was one of the Spartans key hitters in this game as she finished 2-for-4. Junior outfielder Makayla Englestad was another key for SJSU as she went 2-for-3 in the game.
The Bulldogs would claw their way back and decrease the deficit to 4-2 in the seventh, but that was all they would get.
The Spartans’ next game will be the third and final game of this series with their rival Fresno State on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Margie Wright Diamond.
