San Jose State’s women’s basketball (6-24, 5-13 MW) season came to an end with a tough loss 78-68 to Nevada in the Mountain West Championship in Las Vegas.
Nevada (12-18, 7-11) dominated San Jose State on the free-throw line by making 26-of-31 attempts. Although the Spartans were efficient from the line at 81.8 percent, they only attempted 11 free throws and committed 24 fouls.
The Wolfpack only led by four points with 45 seconds to go in the fourth quarter. They would then go on a 6-0 run to finish the game from the free-throw line.
SJSU dished out six more assists as a team, but lost in the rebounding matchup by 28. They shot 43 percent from the field and 48 percent from beyond the arc.
The Spartans were led by sophomore point-guard Danae Marquez with led the team with 19 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Marquez scored 15 of her 19 points from deep on 45 percent shooting.
Sophomore forward Cydni Lewis and junior guard Fieme’a Hafoka also helped the Spartans offense by putting up double-digit scoring 14 and 15 points.
Nevada forwards Terae Briggs and Emma Torbert each posted a double-double, while senior guard Jade Redmon lead the team with 19 points.
