San Jose State women’s tennis (3-0) fought to stay undefeated in its 4-3 win against Santa Clara University at the DeGheri Tennis Center over a two-day span.

The matchup between the crosstown rivals began on Saturday and was postponed to be finished on Sunday afternoon because of rain.

SJSU trailed Santa Clara as it was outplayed in the doubles matches that were played on Saturday afternoon. The singles matches were pivotal for the Spartans to maintain their undefeated streak.

Sophomores Klara Milojkovic, Laura Malsert and Savannah Sendar dominated their opponents to clinch a clean sweep in their singles matches. The deciding match was between SJSU senior Miyo Kobayashi and SCU Katya Tabachnik.

Kobayashi’s single match was the only three-set match in the meet. She fought for the win from a one-set deficit to get 6-4 and 6-3 wins to ultimately come out on top in the match against Tabachnik.

The comeback solidified the Spartans 4-3 team victory over Santa Clara in the non-conference matchup.

“It’s the second year in a row it’s been 4-3 (the score),” head coach Chad Skorupka told SJSU Athletics. “It’s been back-and-forth with Santa Clara the last two years, so it was good to come out on the winning side.”

The Spartans will be back in action on Friday as they host the University of San Francisco in a non-conference dual match at 12 p.m.
