SJSU looks to change momentum against Broncos

After a tough two-game road trip, San Jose State women’s basketball (1-7) returns to the Event Center to take on Santa Clara University (5-4) on Saturday.

The Spartans look to break a four-game losing streak against a Bronco squad that has lost three in a row.

In nine games, SCU has shot about 39 percent from the field. However, it allows its opponents to shoot around 41 percent.

Redshirt sophomore Ashlyn Herlihy leads all Bronco players with a 49 field-goal percentage. The forward averages around 10 points per game.

Junior Tia Hay will be another player to keep an eye on.

The point-guard leads the team averaging 13 PPG and sits in second with a 31 3-point percentage. She trails forward Lauren Yearwood at 33 percent.

The Broncos also allow their opponents to shoot about 40 percent from beyond the arc, so this is where the Spartans can take full advantage.

SJSU shoots about 34 percent from 3 and averages around 10 per game.

Cydni Lewis and Raziya Potter tops the team with 56 and 36 3PT percentages, respectively. Since the duo also leads in averaging 12 and 10 PPG, both should have good games Saturday night.

The Spartans allow their opponents to shoot 43 percent from the field, while committing around 21 turnovers per game.

It’ll be important for them to come out with a strong defense and limit the amount of turnovers.Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
