Women’s basketball falls in Nebraska

By Austin Turner — Staff Writer

Despite a solid 15 point and 9 rebound performance from sophomore forward Cydni Lewis, San Jose State’s women’s basketball fell to Nebraska 96-63 on Saturday.

It was a dominant all-around game from the Cornhuskers. They shot 51 percent from the field and 37 percent from three.

They bullied the Spartans in the paint with 56 rebounds to SJSU’s 28.

Nebraska had four players scoring double-digits, including 18 from freshman forward Leigha Brown and 17 from sophomore guard Taylor Kissinger.

As for SJSU, it was far from its greatest performance. The Spartans shot just 37 percent and drew just even in the assist-turnover ratio with 15 each.

Alongside Lewis, junior Analyss Benally had her best game of the season. She had 14 points on 55 percent shooting and 4 3-pointers.

The loss brings the Spartans to 1-7 on the year.

The team will have a week to prepare to host nearby rival Santa Clara at the Event Center next Saturday, Dec. 15.
