Junior Jennifer Sandoval and senior Craig Huff earned second-team All-Mountain West honors as San Jose State women’s cross country clinched fifth place, while the men secured seventh in the Mountain West Championships in San Diego.
Sandoval placed 11th with a time of 21:08.6, surpassing last year’s result of 14th place at 21:22.41.
Huff’s eighth-place finish at 24:58.9 was SJSU’s best individual result of the day. Like Sandoval, he also beat his previous MW Championship performance, which was 27th place in 2016.
As a whole, the women’s squad finished fifth out of 11 teams with a score of 149 points and a total time of 1:50:46.
Sophomore Kai Bohannon was the second Spartan to finish at 22:00.7 and earned 28th place.
Senior Jeanette Zambrano followed in 34th place at 22:18.7, with freshman Evelin Meza closely behind in 40th at 22:35.3.
As for the men’s team, it finished at 2:09:50 and placed seventh with 161 points.
Junior Jose Pina placed 33rd at 25:47.5. Senior Huruy Zeratsion was right behind and finished 34th at 25:48.8.
Both squads will now prepare for the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 9 in Sacramento.
