San Jose State men’s and women’s cross country came out of the Stanford Invitational with two top-10 placings.

The men’s team finished in fifth place out of 18 teams, and the women took sixth place out of 19 teams.

Both teams showed great improvement from their first meet a little less than a month ago.

Junior Jose Piña represented the Spartans by finishing the 8K in tenth place with a time of 24:21.4.

The next Spartan to cross the finish line was senior Craig Huff, who came in at number 24. In just his second meet of the season, Huff shaved over a minute off his time from the USF Invitational.

For the women’s team, junior Jennifer Sandoval was the Spartan’s top finisher coming in 15th place with a time of 21:26.2. She was less than a minute behind the first place runner from Stanford. Sandoval has yet to finish a race behind one of her teammates.

A little over five seconds behind her was sophomore Kai Bohannon, who came in 18th place.

The women’s team was only three points behind fifth place finisher Cal Poly.

The Spartans were able to bring success home. It was an impressive showing for going up against two nationally ranked teams.

The next race the teams will compete in is in two weeks for the Adidas/Pre-National Invitational in Madison, Wis.
