Men’s soccer opens conference play against the Roadrunners

By Marissa Scott

Coming off its fourth loss of the season, San Jose State men’s soccer looks to start off their conference play with a win against Cal State Bakersfield Saturday night.

The Spartans (2-4-1) and the Roadrunners (2-5) have a long history of matches but in their most recent three, they are 1-1-1.

In the 2017 season finale, SJSU held CSUB to just one shot on goal in its 1-0 win.

CSUB started off the season with back-to-back wins but have lost its magic as the team dropped their fifth game in a row in its most recent loss.

Freshman forward Francisco Gomez leads the Roadrunners with 3 goals is in a three-way tie for points with six.

The Spartan sophomores midfielder Willy Miranda and defender Omar Lemus have each scored three goals on the season and continue to threaten opposing defenders. Miranda scored two of the four goals in the game against USF, including the game winning.

In the opening conference games over the last two seasons, the team has opened with a tie and are hoping to break the streak and come out on top over the Roadrunners.

The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at CSUB’s main soccer field.
