Men’s soccer looks to start winning streak against Saint Mary’s

Coming off its first win of the year, the San Jose State men’s soccer team looks to keep the momentum as it travels to Moraga, Calif. to face Saint Mary’s College Thursday afternoon.

The last five times the Spartans (1-2-1) faced the Gaels (3-0), they hold a 2-2-1 record.

The Spartans look to repeat their last games where they won 2-0 against Sacramento State and sophomore defender Omar Lemus scored both goals to put a one in the win column.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Clewis ranks among the best in the nation with 24 saves on the season and was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week after his 11-save game against Stanford.

In its best start in program history, SMC has gone undefeated and has not allowed a single goal to any of its opponents through its first three games.

The Gaels have scored 10 goals this season, four of which were shot in by junior forward Anders Engebretsen.

Because Saint Mary’s junior goalkeeper Remi Prieur is perfect with 14 saves throughout his three games, it will be difficult for SJSU’s struggling offense to get the job done and score goals.

Kick off is set for 4 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
