San Jose State’s two-time Mountain West long-jump champion Destiny Longmire will join Big-12 Texas Christian University, as announced on the Horned Frog Twitter account on July 23.
Longmire, arguably one of the best women track and field runners SJSU has had in its five years will not rejoin the team for her junior year.
In two seasons with the program, she broke school records and became the first female Spartan track and field athlete to qualify for the NCAA tournament as a sophomore.
As a freshman, Longmire jumped a lifetime best 6.39 meters to claim the spot of MW champion.
She holds the record for indoor and outdoor long jump at SJSU and also the 60-meter indoor with a time of 7.55.
At the NCAA preliminaries in Austin, Texas, Longmire qualified for USA Track and Field National Championships and finished No. 12 among the nation’s top-16 amateur runners.
At the NCAA outdoor championships, she finished No. 14 and earned second-team All America honors.
The Moreno Valley, Calif. native will join a team that lacks jumpers. TCU’s track and field team is filled with sprinters and distance runners and only two other athletes who specialize in jumping.
“Destiny brings NCAA championship level experience and an understanding of what it takes to excel at this level,” head coach Darryl Anderson told TCU Athletics.
The Horned Frogs have won seven NCAA championships since 2012 and have sent 15 athletes to the Olympics since 1984.
The long-jumper’s transfer announcement came the day after the head coach of SJSU’s track and field program Jeff Petersmeyer resigned from the position.
