Baseball falls twice on Saturday to SDSU

San Jose State baseball (22-26, 12-14 MW) could not keep up with the San Diego State (35-16, 17-9 MW) offense with  2-1 and 16-4 losses on Saturday.

In Game 1, the scoreboard was empty until the seventh inning where SDSU junior outfielder Chad Bible scored the first run.

Junior transfer Andrew Mitchel, who has been the ace for the Spartans this season, threw one bad pitch the entire game which costed him his first loss in a Spartan uniform.

SJSU was unable to come back after scoring one run in the ninth and the Aztecs took the first game.

Senior first baseman Shane Timmons blasted his 25th home run of his career, his seventh of this season, and now is tied for the all-time leader in dingers at SJSU.

Junior right-handed pitcher Justin Goossen-Brown threw the first complete game for SDSU.

The second game started with the Aztecs scoring three runs in the third inning.

Sophomore catcher Johnny Mendoza responded with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth but his work would not help for long. It was Mendoza’s first career home run.

SDSU continued to score and the momentum stayed with the home team for the rest of the game.

Senior infielder David Hensley lead the team with five RBIs and three runs.

Timmons lead SJSU with two runs in two at bats.

The last matchup between the two teams is Sunday at 1 p.m.
