San Jose State’s baseball team will head to Southern California to face Mountain West’s No. 2 San Diego State for four games.
The Spartans (21-25, 11-12 MW) and Aztecs (33-15, 15-8 MW) will make up a postponed game from earlier this season on Saturday at 2 p.m.
SJSU is currently tied for third in the Mountain West with Air Force, and have eight games left on the season. SJSU will play Air Force in its final series next weekend at home.
Coming off of a loss to Cal Poly on Wednesday, the team looks to keep the momentum up as it’s jumped four spots in the last month in the MW conference standings.
The Aztecs have won nine of their last 11 games and are two spots back from first place.
The last time the Spartans and the Aztecs met this season, SDSU outscored SJSU 18-3 in the two games.
Andrew Mitchel will be the starting pitcher for the Spartans on Friday night. He is 6-0 on the season and has a 4.26 ERA.
Senior outfielder Chase Calabuig from the Aztecs was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Google Cloud Academic All-District Team for his work on and off the field.
Calabuig has a .347 batting average and leads the team in runs.
The first pitch in San Diego will be on Friday at 6 p.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
