Three important points are at stake when San Jose Earthquakes (1-2-1) are facing Houston Dynamo (1-2-1) at Avaya stadium on Spartan night.
Both Houston and San Jose have collected four points so far this season. The teams are at placed ninth and 10th respectively in the Western Conference. It’s no secret both teams are craving a win.
Even last year the teams had a very similar statistics, finishing only four points apart in the standings. Houston however, made it all the way to the conference final where they lost against Seattle.
Both clubs are strong at home and are having a hard time collecting points on the road, which could be a benefit for the ‘Quakes.
The Earthquakes though, are coming of an draw against Philadelphia Union in Philly, which also was the first point for the team since their season opener.
The Dynamo lost against the New England Revolution in their last round and also hasn’t tasted a win since their first match.
The Dynamo is known to play a lot on counter attacks.
In the team’s only win this season, 4-0 against Atlanta United, they only had 40 percent of the ball possession.
So even if San Jose controls the game they need to be careful not to lose the ball in poor positions.
Last year the clubs battled three times, twice in Houston and once in San Jose. The Dynamo won both their home games, 2-0 and 3-0, and the ‘Quakes won theirs at Avaya 1-0.
Match kicks off 7.30 p.m.
